4th of July is this Wed. and among your plans of fun, sun family, friends, BBQ’s and Fireworks I would like to remind everyone of a few safety tips for your beloved furry friends. Many of our furry friends do not do very well with the festivities of the 4th. Due to the noise, and lights of fireworks I have seen pets dig under fences, scale fences, or even run out an open door due to quests coming in and out of one’s home. Before you say not my pet….please know that noise phobia can occur at ant time….safety is the only way to prevent an accident. So Please make sure your pet has up to date ID tags….still time to get this done. Keep your furry friends indoors. If hosting a party with several guests…may be better to keep your furry friend enclosed in an area of the home where they  cannot be accidentally allowed to roam the streets. While there is never a good time for your furry friends to be roaming the streets, during the summer time there are so many dangers.  Lastly, if heading out to watch a fireworks display, leave your pets in the comfort of his/her home (inside). If you dog suffers from noise phobia to the degree of panic…please discuss this with your vet. for there are drugs that can help to relieve the stress…Of course anytime your pet is taking such medications they should be supervised. Lastly…food safety. If your pet is a known counter surfer (steals food) please be mindful of safety, especially if hosting a party. All cooked bones are a big No-No and this type of accidents can be easily avoided if you just keep your furry friend in a safe environment.

Happy and Safe 4th of July 😉

This afternoon found me going through old files….so many paintings started, then moved on to something else… I have always wondered if most artists work this way?

There are many reasons as to why I work this way…a commissioned piece comes along, I loose my focus, or it is as simple as loosing interest. Today I am going to post one of those unfinished paintings from a long time ago….this will be my summer project, to complete this one painting….that is in between my other paintings and commissioned work. So, I will be posting weekly updates on this one…promise 😉

Over at one of the painting forums that I am a member is having a contest for the 4th of July….so entering a few of mine….who knows,  just maybe Niki’s painting will win me a prize;-)

Yes, this is a blog and I do welcome your comments. One such comment…seemed to be concerned about the dogs safety. I have chosen not to post this comment due to the language, also I thought it best to add a warning for those in the need 😉

****This is a painting. No animal or human was in danger or harmed in any way throughout its entire creation….also it is Niki’s humble opinion that bows added to a dogs fur makes them look silly….even if just a painting!  ****

I was raised in NY, Brooklyn and then later LI.  Just one time did I get to see the 4th of July fireworks in NYC. Funny how things leave a lasting memory. In recently having a discussion with a friend about such lasting impressions this memory has been on my mind. In between a few commissions I thought I would paint a very quick little scribble.

After chatting with and reviewing numerous e-mails from those who have been regularly visiting my blog I thought it time to move.  While I was getting hits on my blog, and it was generating lots of e-mails….no one was leaving any comments. Bloggers love comments. Yes….while Almost a Doodle a Day  looks a little different….it will remain very much the same in that proofs, photographs and On the Easel will be appearing on an Almost daily basis…along with slide shows and of course video clips of Niki’s rehab….I may even add some dog training footage. It will now be so much easier for those wo stop by to say hi, comment on a painting or an image.

In searching for a new home one of the things I read was how  important  trackbacks were to bloggers. Never heard of it….after researching it I am  not really sure if it is prevalent to my blog. I am a bit slow when it comes to this technology, and I find following instructions…well let me just say I am not a wiz kid when it comes to anything with the pc, web sites or blogs.                                                                                                                                                                                                                         One of the articles I read on trackbacks  pretty much along with the explanation on the how to’s and why one should trackback also added an open invitation to trackback to his blog. So….to see just how easy this is, I am going to do that for f I can do it…..it really is easy 😉
